Typographic Installation: Ahmed (Part 1)

This project works towards a social documentation of a lineage.

Reliving the glories of the past, I have looked at stories through the lens of nature, objects and relationships in understanding the essence of a place, its people and practices and how their transition to the present state makes connections to bring back the missing pieces of a moral sense of culture and community; an overall sense of identity and sustainability. 

I have attained a three-generational data-bank through recorded conversations with my grandmother, my father and my cousins, who have spent most of their lives in the same native home through changing times. I have collated some of the stories into one piece of prose-poetry to document my own 'vernacular identity'.

TYPOGRAPHIC INSTALLATION:
The poem is an extract from a mass-collection of stories. 
The material used for the cut letterforms belongs to the very coconut palm tree that has stood beside my native home for generations. This holds significance because in olden time when address systems did not exist, landmarks played a major role in navigation and identity. Hindi being my native spoken language explains the use of the Devnagri script in this typographic installation.
